HOMESTEADWINDOW TREATMENTS

02 · Plantation Shutters

The only window treatment that becomes part of the architecture.

A well-made shutter is not soft goods, it's millwork. We build to the opening, not the catalog: full-louver, café-height, divider-rail, hidden tilt, and arched specialty shapes.

Custom hardwood plantation shutters

Heirloom Grade

Hardwood shutters: the lifelong choice.

Solid basswood with a furniture-grade finish. The best fit for primary living spaces, formal rooms, and any window you want to feel like part of the house, not an accessory to it.

  • Furniture-grade hardwood frame and louvers
  • Hidden tilt option (no front rod)
  • True divider rail for tall windows
  • Custom stains, paint-grade finishes, or color-matched to existing trim

Composite plantation shutters in a Long Island bathroom

Bath, Kitchen & Coastal

Composite shutters: built for moisture and salt air.

Engineered polymer with a UV-stable finish. The right answer for bathrooms, kitchens, and any window that gets direct salt-air exposure or steady humidity. Visually nearly indistinguishable from hardwood from across the room.

  • Moisture- and warp-resistant core
  • UV-stable finish, won't yellow over time
  • Lower price point than hardwood
  • Lifetime warranty against warping and discoloration

Why Shutters

When a shutter is the right answer.

We don't recommend shutters for every room. Here's where they win:

  • Front-of-house windows. Shutters telegraph “well-built home” from the curb in a way no other treatment does.
  • Bathrooms. Privacy plus light, easy to wipe down, no fabric to absorb moisture.
  • Specialty shapes. Arched, octagonal, or eyebrow windows are usually only solvable with custom shutters or drapery.
  • Window seats and transoms. Café-height shutters give privacy below while leaving the upper transom open to light.
